Executive Director

Oxfam fights for a future that is equal, just and fair – one in which all people have more equal opportunities and rights, and one in which we can all thrive, not just survive.

Oxfam International (OI) is seeking to recruit an inspirational strategic leader as Executive Director to lead Oxfam’s transformative agenda.

Oxfam has embarked on a journey of transformation, aiming to enhance its governance, structure, and business model with a feminist and decolonial lens. This entails fostering a more equitable global distribution of power, ensuring deeper connections with the communities it serves, amplifying its global, regional, and national impact, and improving its capacity to share knowledge and insights. These changes are geared towards facilitating the transformation of a ‘changed Oxfam’ that is a relevant and credible partner on high quality programs while fostering accountability and enhancing financial and operational systems through a feminist and decolonial framework.

The Oxfam International Executive Director (OIED) will lead the OI Secretariat (OIS) to effectively carry out its functions in support of the Oxfam Confederation. The ED will lead transformational processes to strengthen the Oxfam Confederation, drive a vision of a confederation of equals, and ensure effective mechanisms for implementation of its collective agenda and strategic priorities. Furthermore, the role will represent Oxfam at all levels internally & externally – inspiring not only Oxfam staff but also people around the world to believe in Oxfam’s values and join an invigorated movement to bring progressive change. This ambitious role is one of significant breadth and influence, combining strategic vision and leadership, external representation and influence and effective operational co-ordination.

The OIED reports directly to the Chair of the OI Board, leads the OI team Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Oxfam International Secretariat staff. The OIED chairs the Executive Directors Forum.

  • Are you a politically astute, diplomatic, courageous, enabling and visionary leader who can guide the confederation in the implementation of a collective global vision?
  • Are you an effective manager able to balance competing priorities, plan for the future, inspire and incentivize teams within matrixed organizational structures?
  • Do you have a strong external influencing profile combined with experience leading and managing a large cross-cultural organization with thousands of staff?
  • Do you have a deep understanding of how to lead with feminist principles in ways that address power structures and systemic inequity, strengthen a feminist and decolonial organizational culture and staff engagement?
  • Do you share a commitment to Oxfam’s core values of protecting and promoting the social, economic, cultural and political rights of all people?
  • Do you have a successful record of working with a multiplicity of stakeholders to lead and manage change and complex organizational negotiations?

If yes, then you are the leader we are looking for to take the Oxfam Confederation to the next level of its transformation.
