Managing Director

Ronald McDonald House Belgium has been serving families in the Brussels area for many years. Our mission is to ease the hardship of children’s illness on families by focusing on the critical needs of children, celebrating the diversity of the donors who make them possible, staying true to our heritage of responsible stewardship, and operating with accountability and transparency. We have the intention to open another Ronald McDonald House in Luik and other houses in other locations will be part of this impactful journey.

The Position

The Managing Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for guiding the Board in the development of the vision and strategic plan for the organization, and for the successful implementation of that plan. Together, the Board and Managing Director ensure the organization’s relevance to the community and the accountability of RMHC to its diverse constituents. The Managing Director leads the organization and increases its visibility, funding, and programs in the Brussels area.

Success in this position will require fitting into the culture of RMHC. This will require a passion for the mission of the organization and for the families it serves.  It will require the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, with a variety of stakeholders who support and help the organization. It will also require sensitivity to the needs and passions of a diverse staff.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic Leadership

• Works with the Board and senior leadership team to develop a shared vision for the future of the organization, builds understanding around the mission, and develops appropriate goals and strategies to advance that mission.
• Keeps an awareness of the organization in its entirety as well as the complexity of its parts.
• Stays abreast of current trends related to the organization’s programs and anticipates future trends likely to have an impact on its work.

Financial and Operational Leadership

• Maintains accountability for the operational and fiscal integrity of the organization within policies set by the Board of Directors and per current laws and regulations.
• Monitors strategies to meet annual budget needs and for ensuring the long-term financial viability of the organization.
• Makes sound financial decisions and program recommendations based on a thorough understanding of the organization’s overall financial picture.
• Looks broadly at the community needs to review and determine the alignment of programs to need and mission, continued relevance to the strategic vision, and best use of operating capital to achieve the mission.

Public Relations and Community Impact

• Serves as the external principal spokesperson in the region.
• Responsible for the overall impact of the organization on the community, with particular emphasis on increasing its capacity to drive mission and vision.

Human Capital

• Supervises Senior Leadership positions and establishes individual goals.
• Promotes a culture that reflects the organization’s values and encourages good performance.
• Ensures the organizational structure is appropriate for its size and scale and manages the change associated with the growth and development of the Chapter.

Board of Directors

• Serves as the principal resource to the Board of Directors and its key committees and gives strong direction in policy formulation and interpretation, preferred strategies, and resolutions.
• Maintains an effective working relationship with the Board, characterized by open communication, respect, and trust.
• Supports board development, especially recruitment, in conjunction with Board leadership.

Qualifications:

• Executive leadership: extensive experience with managing teams, resources, and processes.
• P&L is responsible for running a growing organization
• Community outreach: experience building and managing alliances and partnerships.
• Fundraising/development: success acquiring/stewarding
• Successful management of organizational growth and change.
• Experience managing and growing an organizational Board of Directors, collaborating on strategic vision, and implementing an organizational strategic plan.
• Deep understanding of and experience in integrating impact analysis into planning processes.
• An understanding of the political, business, and fundraising trends of the Brussels area is helpful.

The candidate of choice is a seasoned, well-rounded executive with at least 7-10 years of experience in high-level senior strategic leadership and a demonstrated record of success in leading high-performing organizations. The Managing Director will be charged with building on RMHC’s exceptional brand and record of accomplishment by further developing the organization’s vision, and achieving its goals for continued financial stability, community engagement, and enhancing the impact of its programs.
