Lifebox is a global non-profit that saves lives through safer surgery and anesthesia. Co-founded and chaired by Dr. Atul Gawande, Lifebox works to increase anesthesia safety, reduce surgical infection rates, and strengthen operating room teamwork through tools, training, and partnerships. Since its founding in 2011, Lifebox has worked in over 116 countries and trained more than 11,000 healthcare providers.
Purpose of Role
Lifebox has bold and ambitious goals around the development and dissemination of low-cost, accessible tools, technology and training for safer surgery and anesthesia. These include the development of new innovations and devices, work around access to medical devices and technology transfer, and taking action to mitigate the impact of our work on planetary health. The Head of Technology, Training and Innovation will provide senior leadership for the development and implementation of a strategy to achieve these goals. The role is expected to have two direct reports, three staff in total, and a $1.5 million annual budget as of December 2021.
Roles and Responsibilities
We are looking for an individual who can take on the challenge of leading these efforts, however we recognise that no candidate will have expertise in all of the areas outlined. Please let us know in your application if you have expertise in some areas, and the passion and drive to learn to do the other parts. The successful applicant will be able to draw on a wide range of volunteers, consultants and partners to provide additional advice and support.
